ABOUT THE PERFORMERS
THE GOOD TROUBLE BRASS BAND began more than 20 years ago as the Second Line Social Aid and Pleasure Society Brass Band, participating in anti-war protests with Vermont’s long-running Bread & Puppet Theater. In 2006, the group established the first Honk! Festival of Activist Street Bands in Davis Square, a joyous annual event that has spread to cities around the world. The group changed their name in 2023 to honor the late Congressman John Lewis and his signature motto about social activism.
ABBIE BARRETT is a Boston Music Award-winning songwriter who has shared stages with the B52s, the Motels, and Rhett Miller. Her band includes two Paid Protesters, Mike Oram and Ed Valauskas, as well as drummer Rice Edmonston.
LINNEA HERZOG is the founder and namesake of Linnea’s Garden, a trio that combines punk, riot grrrl, and Goth into a danceable blend that identifies as “punky pro-sex, love and rock ‘n’ roll,” in the words of Boston Groupie News. In her spare time, Dr. Herzog is a systems neuroscientist.
Jamaica Plain native PAUL WILLIS is a hip-hop artist and educator. The director of programming at Beat the Odds, a Boston-based non-profit that offers creative development opportunities for low-income students, He is the author of “Hip Hop Leadership,” a blueprint for teaching leadership through music.
LINDA TWISS GIOSCIA is the frontwoman of Roxy and the Crisis, a band of avatars “born in revolution and nurtured in the digital universe.” In her other life, Linda is a nationally recognized dancer and dance instructor, and onetime Miss Brockton.
CHRIS COTE is a guitarist, bassist, voiceover artist, and chameleonic singer who has performed in various Boston-based bands, including Seks Bomba, the Upper Crust, and Duke Robillard and His All-Star Band.
